Whiplash
What Causes Whiplash?
Whiplash is an injury to your neck resulting from your neck bending forcibly forward and then backward, or vice versa. The injury usually involves the muscles, discs, nerves and tendons in your neck. Whiplash typically occurs in automobile accidents. It can happen in instances of sudden acceleration or deceleration, or from being rear-ended. Whiplash can also occur because of injuries while playing sports, particularly during contact sports.
Whiplash Symptoms
Whiplash symptoms include neck pain, neck stiffness, shoulder pain, low back pain, dizziness, pain in your arm or hand, numbness in arm or hand, ringing in ears, blurred vision, concentration or memory problems, irritability, sleeplessness or tiredness.
How a Chiropractor Helps Whiplash
Chiropractic adjustments can help reduce inflammation and pain in the aftermath of whiplash. Adjustments help move misaligned vertebrae back into the correct position and help increase range of motion in your neck. Regular adjustments will help keep your muscles and spine strong and healthy as you heal from whiplash. Chiropractic can also help reduce the risk of recurrent headaches, which are a risk post accidents. Adjustments significantly reduce tension in your muscles that would otherwise lead to pain and headaches.
Post whiplash injury, you may feel effects that last for weeks or months. Regular adjustments can help speed up your recovery process by reducing the risk of long term implications, increasing blood flow, and improving energy levels. Chiropractic adjustments not only help with whiplash, but can also improve your overall wellness.
